Job SummaryOVERVIEW OF POSITION The Career Coach executes, plans, organizes, and supports the development of college and career readiness opportunities for students across the district, with a primary focus on Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The Career Coach is responsible for helping students explore career pathways, develop career goals, and align their high school coursework and experiences with postsecondary plans. This includes, but is not limited to, facilitating job shadowing, internships, and dual enrollment; supporting workforce development and credentialing initiatives; and collaborating with CTE instructors, counselors, postsecondary partners, and business/industry representatives. The Career Coach will work directly with students to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to make informed decisions regarding their futures. The Career Coach will directly report to the CTE Director/ Principal or Superintendent's designee and administer any assignment deemed directed. The Career Coach will also be expected to:
  • Support an educational environment in which students succeed academically, socially, and physically in accordance with system philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • To serve as a student advocate, role model, and professional resource for parents, the community, and the school system.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required; background in education, counseling, workforce development, or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in career coaching, education, or youth services preferred.
  • Knowledge of Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways and workforce trends.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, parents, educators, and community stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in educational software, career planning tools, and data management systems.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned.
  • Promote career awareness and planning for students in grades 9-12.
  • Guide students in creating and updating their four-year plans and Individualized Graduation Plans (IGPs).
  • Conduct one-on-one and group sessions to explore college, career, and credentialing options.
  • Coordinate and facilitate work-based learning opportunities including job shadowing, internships, and business visits.
  • Support students in understanding and applying for dual enrollment, apprenticeships, and certification programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school system, postsecondary institutions, and workforce development agencies.
  • Collaborate with CTE teachers, counselors, principals, and external partners to support career pathway alignment and student success.
  • Assist with organizing and implementing college and career fairs, industry tours, and employer panels.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation related to career readiness goals.
  • Travel may be required for training, conferences, and visits to postsecondary institutions or work sites.
  • Communicates accurate and timely information, knowledgeably and responsibly, in understandable and meaningful terms, regarding individual student progress, to the student, parents and professional colleagues who need access to the information.
  • Communicates high learning expectations for all students and establishes learning outcomes that are relative to real world experiences.
  • Uses appropriate techniques and strategies to enhance the application of critical, creative and evaluative thinking capabilities of students.
  • Provides instruction on safety procedures and proper handling of materials and equipment.
  • Fosters student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others by role modeling and through learning activities.
  • Serves on school/system committees, task forces, planning teams, and advisory groups as required.
  • Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, events, ceremonies, services and programs.
  • Engages in personal professional growth, adheres to professional standards, and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding /student/school/workplace matters.
  • Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors students in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures.
  • Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the principal and/or supervisor(s).
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten, or twelve-month position in accordance with the Board's salary schedule. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Pickens County Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
