Salary: $47,300.00 - $60,200.00 Annually Location : Normal Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202300430 Department: Residential Life Opening Date: 10/02/2024 Description Summary: The Area Coordinator is a Department of Residential Life staff member who assists in creating a community environment that promotes and supports residents' personal and academic success consistent with the mission and values of the University. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Area Coordinator is responsible for the day to day supervision of residence hall directors and resident assistants in the area of Residential Life. Examples of Duties Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend Dean of Students staff meetings;
- Act as liaison with the faculty, deans, community, and appropriate college offices through attendance at university community functions and committees;
- Provide on-campus management and supervision; Assist with the recruitment, selection, training, mentoring, supervising, and evaluation of all residence life staff;
- Ensure coordination and evaluation of Residence Hall activities, included but not limited to, hall programming, leadership development, and crisis intervention;
- Approves and maintains a record of leave requests ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts and records time accordingly on monthly service reports;
- Assumes responsibility for articulating physical plant needs in the residential facilities to the Director of Physical facilities;
- Keeps members of the residence hall staff adequately informed on issues across campus;
- Manage proper facilitation of due process system in Judicial Affairs and Residence Life;
- Advise Residential Hall Association;
- Assist in implementing effective management strategies in the day-to-day operation of the residence halls;
- Assist with and represent residential life in special events, such as Orientations, Junior/Senior Days, camps and conferences, etc;
- Assist with the development and evaluation of programs, services, policies, procedures, management, marketing, etc.;
- Create the rotating on-call duty schedule and be available for extended workdays, weekend and holiday duty and activities, and emergencies; and other duties as assigned; and
- Assists in initiatives in the Dean of Students office
Typical Qualifications Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
- Bachelor's Degree required
Preferred
- Three to five years full-time Higher Education experience preferred.
- Extensive Residence Life experience in a supervisory position in a residence hall environment preferred.
- Master's degree in the fields of student personnel, counseling, psychology, education, management, communication or a related field.
Supplemental Information Essential Functions:
- Knowledge of Residence Life operations and judicial affairs processes
- Knowledge of CAS Standards for Residence Life and Judicial Affairs programs
- Ability to handle and diffuse escalated complaints and conflicts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate skills in human relations, diversity, leadership, supervision, programming, flexibility, professionalism and the ability to respond to emergency situations in all areas of campus life.
- Demonstrated knowledge of technology use, written and oral communication skills are strongly preferred.
