Job Description :
Description The HHMI Core Team invites proposals in support of the grant initiative in any of the three areas below with the expectation of increasing Hamilton's capacity for inclusion:
How do we increase the capacity of the institution to develop STEM educators who have competencies needed for creating safe, equitable and supportive teaching and learning communities? The focus is on the development of diversity, equity, and inclusion competencies of faculty and staff. How do we increase the capacity of the institution to support curricular redesign to achieve inclusive excellence in introductory STEM experience? The focus is on improving introductory STEM classroom, laboratory and research experiences for PEER (persons excluded because of their ethnicity or race) and first-generation students. How do we increase the capacity of the institution to build peer-to-peer student cultures of support in STEM? The focus is on building cohesive and meaningful peer-to-peer STEM cultures on campus. Proposals should describe projects that align with the goals of the HHMI grant: How do we increase the capacity of the institution to create and maintain safe, equitable, and supportive teaching and learning environments? How do we create a space where all faculty, administrators, and staff are capable of providing the tools and resources that allow all students to succeed in their own STEM pathway? Additional criteria that will be used in considering proposals: Does the proposal clearly define what will be needed to make the project successful and sustainable? Is the support reasonable and adequate for the scope of the project? Is the project collaborative (broadly defined)? How does the project encourage collaboration? All spending must align with college policy and the restrictions of the HHMI award (subject to review by the Core Team). Reporting Funded projects will be required to submit an annual progress report due by June 30th each year for the length of the award. During the final year of a funded project, a final report documenting the outcomes of the project is required. Application Instructions Proposals should include: an application with an abstract (150 words), a project description specifying length of the award for up to three years (no more than 1000 words), a statement on how the project aims to increase our institutional capacity for greater inclusion and belonging (500 words), a budget and justification, an assessment plan specifying the outcomes and how they will be evaluated/measured, and a list of participants (identifying the PI and, if applicable, a Co-PI) including their department/program affiliation. Awards will be made for up to $3000 per project. Larger awards will be considered pending available funds and goals of the project. Projects funded during an initial round that demonstrate additional need may apply for a second round of funding. Individual projects may not be funded more than two times. During the 2023-24 academic year there will be two deadlines for proposals on January 15, 2024 and again on May 13, 2024. Each award will be made for the period of time noted by the PI in the application. Awards may be made for up to three years.
