About this Opportunity Brunswick County is looking for an Information Technology (IT) Technician to join our Information Technology (IT) Department to help design, maintain, and troubleshoot computer software, hardware, and mobile devices for County departments and employees. Working as part of a team, the IT Technician will receive and respond to inquiries, concerns, complaints, and requests for assistance from County staff regarding information technology systems and operations within established service level agreements based on the priority of the request or incident. Work includes:
  • Preparing and deploying end user devices by imaging, configuring, installing applications, testing for proper operation, and creating and maintaining images for hardware set-up.
  • Maintaining computer hardware, software, peripheral equipment, and installing computer cabling.
  • Maintaining mobile hardware (including laptops, iPads, mobile gateways, and network connected narcotics safes) and software for all ambulances and administrative vehicles for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department.
  • Utilizing electronic ticketing system to capture information on end users, support requests, incidents, and equipment inventory.
  • Providing reports to IT management as required.
  • Serving as audio/visual technical resource for Board of County Commissioners Meetings, Planning Board Meetings, and other County Meetings as needed.
  • Participating in a rotation with other IT Technicians to work during Emergency Operations Center activations to ensure that technology functions properly during emergency events.
The successful IT Technician will: consistently provide end user support and assistance with a customer-centric focus on service delivery; fully embrace and adhere to department policies and procedures on Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) based methodologies and tools (i.e., Change Management, Service Catalog, etc.); actively engages in the department's agile-based project management (SCRUM) methodology and procedures. The IT Technician reports to the IT Deputy Director. Education and Experience Technical college diploma in computer technology, computer networking, or related field AND two (2) years of responsible experience in computer technology; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • NC or SC driver license required.
  • Familiarity with Windows, iOS, and Android operating systems, Active Directory, Mobile Device Management, multi-factor authentication, and Microsoft Office Products is also required.
Physical Requirements Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds) and occasionally heavier weight (up to 50 pounds).
