( Court appearances may count as in office days) $80 - $90/hr depending on experience Job Summary: The Attorney is responsible for independently negotiating, settling and resolving personal injury and property damage lawsuits for the Company and working with other members in the Law Department on matters, as necessary. Core Responsibilities:
- The Attorney is responsible for independently settling and resolving personal injury and property damage lawsuits for the Company and working with other members in the Law Department on matters, as necessary.
- Under the supervision of the Associate General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel, the Attorney shall perform the following functions.
- Negotiate settlements or resolutions of pending General Litigation matters with all involved parties to reach favorable resolutions for the Company with minimal supervision.
- Attend mediations independently, or with a handling Senior Attorney, to resolve pending litigation matters on behalf of the Company.
- Oversee or conduct legal research relevant to scope of responsibility.
- Evaluate cases and make recommendations for settlement authority based on legal research, review of medical reports, hospital records and verdict/settlement searches of various injury types.
- Identify and become knowledgeable about relevant factual and legal issues and establish a strategy for handling the resolution of a lawsuit or matter.
- Identify and cultivate opportunities to form relationships with Insurance Companies and attorneys frequently encountered by the Company to increase number of resolutions and decrease the number of active cases being handled by the Company.
- As needed, represent the Company at Court conferences and hearings in New York State Courts (Supreme Court, Civil Court, and Small Claims Court) and Federal Court.
- As needed, draft stipulations of settlement, releases, pleadings, motions and legal memoranda clearly, accurately, and effectively.
- Provide support to other Law Department groups.
- May provide oversight and guidance to external vendors and counsel.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
