Rate of Pay: $28-$35/Session and a Free YMCA Membership

Under the direction and with the full support of the Program Director - Health and Well Being, the Registered Dietitian will be responsible for providing sound nutritional information to the YMCA membership at large. Information will be disseminated in-group workshops, nutrition counseling; also training staff in other departments to include nutrition in all programming and other vehicles as nutrition programming expands. The Dietitian must have demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and have group work facilitation skills. Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Warmly and enthusiastically greet members with smile and eye contact

• Provide individual nutritional counseling which follows both the goals of the member and the sound nutritional information of the registered dietitian; condoning supplements only when appropriate, “fad” diets or any other information that doesn't follow the YMCA's philosophy of lifestyle changes of eating habits based on the food guide pyramid

• Schedule one on one appointment with member, making sure both parties have each other's phone numbers in the case of an emergency cancellation.

• Provide leadership for group workshops about nutritional topics with member focus in mind

• Provide sound, basic nutritional training to ReadyFit coaches and other YMCA staff in order to better guide all members with the food guide pyramid and serving sizes

• Be a part of and participate in the association wide nutrition team for development and implementation of nutrition programming

• Arrive for all appointments/workshops well groomed and in proper attire. No hats, excessive jewelry, or perfume. Name-tags worn.

• Arrive for all appointments/workshops on time and be prepared

• Products or services that are not part of the YMCA program(s) shall not be promoted or endorsed by employee to any member or guest whether the employee is “on the clock” or not.

• Meet with and inform supervisor about any handouts being distributed in nutrition sessions, as well as regarding topics being covered.

• Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Have or be in pursuit of obtaining a 4 year degree to be a registered dietitian (nationally registered)

• Possess and maintain current CPR/First Aid/AED certification

• Complete the YMCA of Greater Rochester New Staff Orientation within 60 days of hire

• Principles of YMCA Health and Fitness within 3 months of hire date

• Maintain CASs/policies of the American Dietetic Association (75 hours/5 years)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift

• Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally

• Must be able to lift 15 pounds occasionally

Salary Description

$28 to $35 per hour
