Posting Position Information Posting Number: 0601350-C Position Type: Classified Special Notes to Applicants:Information Regarding the Salary Placement Process: According to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between LBCC and the Independent Association of Classified Employees (IACE), all Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position's grade. Placement at a higher step on the schedule is not negotiable, except by mutual written agreement of Association leadership and LBCC Human Resources. These exceptions are uncommon, and only granted in limited circumstances. The Network Technician 1 position is graded as a Grade 17. Step 1 on the Classified salary schedule for this grade is $52,083 for the 2025-26 Fiscal Year. Progression on the salary schedule is subject to the terms and conditions laid out in the IACE Collective Bargaining Agreement. The position involves diagnosing and resolving access issues, enhancing data security through timely adjustments, and actively contributing to spam and phishing defense. Additionally, this role provides essential help desk support across various IT areas. Required Qualifications:Applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications.   • Associates Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field
  • Two years of experience in a technical environment.
Additional experience may substitute for education. Knowledge and Skills:
  • Requires a general knowledge of the operational characteristics of computer and operating systems.
  • Requires sufficient organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines with changing priorities.
  • Keyboarding and typing skills are required.
  • Must have understanding of computer operating systems such as Windows Server and Windows Desktop and the use of enterprise management systems such as Active Directory.
Abilities:
  • Must be able to independently manage, diagnose, and resolve network and access issues with minimal supervision.
  • Requires the ability to prioritize and work within set time schedules.
  • Must be able to perform data entry accurately and efficiently.
  • Requires the ability to work with the public in a customer service capacity.
  • Must be able to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Requires the ability to effectively triage and route help desk tickets, analyze system-level issues, and recommend or implement solutions.
  • Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with enterprise-level tools such as Active Directory, backup systems, and SSO platforms is preferred.
  • Technical customer service experience in an IT help desk or network support setting is highly desirable.
  • Word processing and spreadsheet skills are preferred.
  • Proficiency in scripting, with a preference for PowerShell is preferred.
  • A working understanding of general office practices and procedures is preferred.
  • Experience with cybersecurity, including spam and phishing prevention and account access controls is highly preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Physical Skills and Abilities: Position involves walking, standing, stooping, kneeling and carrying and lifting of light to medium weight materials (10 to 50 pounds). May periodically lift weights exceeding 50 pounds. Requires visual acuity and depth perception, good arm, hand and finger dexterity, and hand, eye coordination. Requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to hear over phone and carry on routine conversations Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors with potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to electronics work. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. Capable of independent work, requiring minimal direct supervision. Work is performed onsite. Essential Duties:
  • Administers and maintains critical IT access systems, setting up new user accounts for Single Sign-On (SSO), network, and email. Diagnoses and resolves network access problems, ensures data security through timely access adjustments based on personnel changes, and monitors email directory synchronization for Internet email services. Creates and maintains updating user access procedures and documentation.
  • Provides support for network and email access issues, resolving user-reported problems. Assists the Network Team in defending against spam and phishing attacks and handling basic security concerns related to user accounts or email.
  • Assists department in help desk duties in areas of administrative, network, email, and other software packages. Manages triage of helpdesk tickets for the Network Teams queue.
  • Monitors warnings, status, and logging of campus email, file servers and network equipment to ensure constant availability. Monitors Computer Room HVAC, UPS' and other equipment and takes corrective actions and notifies the Network Team of unresolved problems.
  • Provides technical support by diagnosing and resolving user access problems across Single Sign-On (SSO), network, and email platforms. This role requires proficient troubleshooting of all account creation issues to maintain user productivity.
  • Monitors Tape Backups and lets the Network Team know if there are any issues that need immediate attention. Assists with maintaining Backup Tapes including the rotation of backup tapes between the various different tape storage locations.
