Pleasant Public Schools Job Posting The following position is available for the 2025-2026 school year: FTE Position Building 1.0 Socio Emotional Learning Specialist Fancher Elementary Qualifications & Preferred Skills:
  • A valid teaching certificate, counseling degree, or social work degree, and/or other degree or advanced training or skills, and successful experience supporting the social, emotional and behavioral needs of students within the school setting, including behavioral or family intervention supports.
  • Preferred experience in classroom teaching or working with students in a public school setting, or counseling, therapy setting
  • Knowledge and experience working with MTSS, PBIS, and Restorative Practices
  • An educator who specializes in social emotional learning, (SEL) who can help foster the attitudes and values needed to help students acquire life skills and become more thoughtful human beings, helping set them up for future success. Will work with children to improve their interaction skills and work with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Possesses excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills and proficiency with current technology; ability to confidentially communicate
  • Exhibits a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to develop/sustain positive working relationship well across a variety of multicultural, multi-experience, multi-background audiences including students, staff, administration, parents and the community
  • Experience in data-based decision making
  • Demonstrates collaborative leadership in current position, preferably with related experience
  • Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the community, district staff, students and external relations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the responsibility of supporting the health, safety, and wellness of students/families
  • Coordinates and supports student attendance as per the Student Handbook Truancy policies, Michigan Revised School Code.
  • Collaborate with building Behavior Interventionists about student supports
  • Collects, monitors, and analyzes school behavioral data to assist with student and school problem-solving (Familiar with TFI, Illuminate, PowerSchool)
  • Oversees the MTSS behavior process and implementation of data driven processes, data collection, and monitors the PBIS TFI (Tiered Fidelity Inventory) data at all three levels.
  • Utilize and promote decision making that is student centered, equity focused, and data-informed
  • Coordinates Tier 2 and Tier 3 students interventions and guides support staff who work with Tier 2 and Tier 3 students.
  • Provides leadership and coordination of PBIS & MTSS plan/team (Jim Harris work and CK Hearts work)
Additional Duties & Preferred Qualifications:
  • Utilizes Restorative Practices and utilize behavior systems to support at-risk student success
  • Support administrators, teachers and other school staff in identifying root causes of student behavioral issues and ways to meet students social and emotional needs.
  • Assessment of well-being, emphasizing wellness programming for students and staff
  • In conjunction with staff develop behavior plans for students, support all staff with implementation
  • Engage in planning, development, and facilitation of other defined activities related to social-emotional learning, wellbeing, and trauma-informed practices including staff professional development and coaching
  • Supports implementation of Capturing Kids' Hearts and work with Jim Harris
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies and behavior support techniques in a multi-tiered system of support
  • Effectively manage student discipline issues in cooperation with the school counselor, social worker and principal.
  • Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  • Provide flexible support to school avoidant students to assist them in re-integrating into the school setting
  • Administer student discipline as per the Student Handbook and Michigan Revised School Code.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by the building principal
