Program Specialist Work Week: Full-time, flexible which 5 days per week it is, both day-time and/or evenings depending on requests. This is a great role for a former Teacher or Park Service employee who enjoys educating children about STEM (science, technology, engineering & mathematics). Position Summary: Target audience: K-12 children. The Program Specialist will contribute to membership engagement and retention by providing high impact program opportunities to engage Girl Scouts in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The Program Specialist is responsible for the development and delivery of level appropriate and inclusive STEM curriculum, and management of the mobile STEM On-the-Go system bringing accessible STEM programming to communities across Eastern Massachusetts, largely through the GSEMA Mobile STEM Van. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop STEM curriculum that is age/Girl Scout level appropriate, inclusive, outcome-based and increases girls' understanding of and interest in STEM.
  • Deliver engaging and exciting programing to all Girl Scout age levels. Typically a program is 2 hours per location.
  • Manage STEM On-the-Go logistics to include: supply management (stocking the van with supplies), program site confirmation, communication with troops, management of requests, and calendar management.
  • Support additional council programs and events as needed.
  • Ensure that all programs and activities are consistent with GSUSA Girl Leadership Experience, GSUSA and GSEMA health, risk management and safety standards, and local, state, and federal laws/guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality on behalf of the Girl Scout organization and in accordance with the GSEMA Comprehensive Information Security program (CISP[BC1] ).
  • Maintain accurate records for reporting.
  • Driving the van to locations, unloading supplies, reloading after program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education is highly preferred, Associates degree required. Preferred is STEM related field, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Work experience in curriculum development and delivery or related field preferred.
  • Experience in nontraditional education preferred.
  • Analytical capabilities utilizing qualitative and quantitative data, possess a metrics-focused mindset.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software; adept at utilizing social networking; experience using Salesforce or demonstrated ability to learn and become proficient with new technology.
  • Strong public relations skills and ability to develop community collaborations; able to relate well to both adults and children.
  • Bilingual skills are highly desirable.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Capacity to, independently and as part of a team, plan, organize and prioritize work, while managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with access to reliable transportation to perform the duties of the job.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends per need.

  • Staff All Hands-on Deck (AHOD) events as needed (some evenings and weekends required). All staff expected to assist with at least four events or activities outside of their department each year.
Work Environment: This is a remote work position both at home and in the communities served. Will also require occasional time at designated GSEMA offices or properties as needed (Waltham or Middleborough), both indoors and outdoors. May also involve work activities on properties, designated sites/events and community locations as needed. Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift and manipulate up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Requires ability to drive STEM Van to community events or other locations.
  • May involve prolonged periods of sitting or working on a computer.
Travel Requirements: Must haveaccess to reliable transportation to travel to GSEMA offices/service centers and across the Council footprint as needed.
