CONTACT INFORMATION: JessicaBuford, Assistant Director of University Recreation, 325-###-#### or ...@hsutx.edu SUMMARY/SCOPE: Hardin-SimmonsUniversity Recreation's Parkinson's Exercise Program is a meaningful initiativethat allows students to work directly with individuals diagnosed withParkinson's Disease. This neurodegenerative condition affects movement,posture, writing, and speech. Through this program, students play a crucialrole in helping participants improve their balance, coordination, and strength,ultimately working to slow the progression of the disease. VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES (AS VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE ALLOWS): General responsibilities are as follows: assist with thedaily operations of the program, guide clients through workouts, demonstrateexercises, and assist with administrative duties as needed. Report any abnormalities or unusual situations to theAssistant Director of University Recreation. Display compassion and sensitivity to clients withParkinson's Disease and keep any and all personal and medical informationconfidential as stated under HIPAA laws. Exhibit trustworthiness and honesty in work andparticipation with those interacting with Hardin-Simmons University. Volunteers have a direct impact on our campus and our HSUfamily. All responsibilities and duties are voluntary and arescheduled only if a volunteer is available and desires to perform the duties. Allvolunteers are required to pass a criminal background check, MVR (Motor VehicleRecord Check), and complete Child Protection Training when working with minors. HSU will review each volunteer application prior toapproval. A current photo ID will be required to be on file for allapproved HSU volunteers. Thisis something that I may need your help verifying whether all of this stays orgets changed. We do need to add in HIPAA training as a requirement. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers must be able to connect to the internet or haveaccess to a phone for communications via GroupMe. TRAVEL/TIME REQUIREMENTS: Shifts are based on the volunteer's availability as well asclient availability, but are limited to less than 15 hours per week. Volunteers are responsible for keeping a record of theirvolunteer hours if, and when, needed for HSU internship courses and resumebuilding. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing and minimum lifting may be required (up to 20 - 25lbs. or less). All shifts are indoors at the Fletcher Fitness Center.
