Description: This employee is responsible for organizing and implementing a physical therapy program for exceptional education students. The physical therapy provided must align with laws and policies. Duties include designing a physical therapy program consistent with the educational philosophy of the district. Continuing professional growth through educational meetings and professional literature is essential. Collaboration with other special education teachers and related personnel is required in program planning and development. Identifying strengths and weaknesses of referred special education students is a critical responsibility. Each student will have an annual educational plan prepared, implemented, and evaluated based on assessed needs. Individual plans of care must be created and evaluated according to district policies. Using appropriate assessment instruments pertinent to therapy areas is necessary. Supporting projects designed to serve students in the program is part of the role. Creating appropriate schedules for special education students involving school personnel is required. Specialized physical therapy techniques will be provided through individual and/or group sessions to meet students' needs. Seeking community resources and agencies to support student needs is expected. Participation in staffing and screening processes is essential as appropriate. Being part of evaluation teams for special education students is part of the duties. Parents will receive suggestions for home techniques to support their children. Teachers will be given suggestions for follow-up strategies and techniques upon request. Developing a professional library is encouraged to enhance knowledge and resources.
