Employment Category Administrative/Professional Regular/Temporary Regular If temporary, list durationType of Appointment Fiscal Contract Period 12 month Position Summary Information Position Summary The Accompanist is under the general supervision of the Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance and serves as accompanist for Musical Theatre Voice lessons, faculty recitals, voice studio classes, rehearsals, end-of-semester juries, and auditions for departmental performances. Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 180,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare repertoire for rehearsals and performances covering a wide range of literature.
  • Develop rehearsal and performance schedule with students/faculty/guest artists.
  • Perform as a collaborative artist/accompanist as needed.
  • Secure and schedule additional faculty/student accompanists.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to play advanced, difficult and complex literature with technical facility, stylistic understanding and artistry.
  • Knowledge of standard vocal and instrumental repertory.
  • Ability to sight read music.
  • Ability to transpose music is a plus.
  • Ability to perform at a professional level.
  • Ability to read open score.
  • Ability to follow University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to accurately prepare records and reports.
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with various populations, the University community and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include evening and weekend performances both on- and off-campus
Physical Requirements
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of
force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Music or related discipline preferred
  • A record of performances as a professional accompanist.
  • A background check will be required of the successful applicant
