Position Summary The Alternatives to Suspension (ATS) Clinician provides counseling services in alignment with legal, ethical, and professional standards, as well as the mission of the YMCA of Greater San Francisco. This role includes conducting assessments, delivering individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and case management for youth and families. The clinician must be able to travel within San Mateo County to provide services across multiple school sites. Job ResponsibilitiesProgram & School Collaboration
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with school administration, ensuring program success.
  • Coordinate with the School Safety Advocate (SSA) to discuss student progress, safety concerns, and mental health needs, and determine appropriate referrals if necessary.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings regarding school climate and student support.
  • Represent the YMCA and the Youth Service Bureau department in the community.
Clinical Services
  • Provide individual, family, and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and referrals for all clinic clients within the Youth Service Bureau (YSB) clinic.
  • Develop short-term and long-term therapeutic outcomes, ensuring at least 80% of students attending the program achieve progress.
  • Refer students with identified mental health and/or substance abuse needs to the most appropriate provider for effective support.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Maintain high-quality, HIPAA-compliant clinical charting and records using an electronic health records system.
  • Maintain confidential clinical charts and submit timely service reports.
  • Track and report statistics on the type and amount of services provided.
  • Collect program evaluation and reporting data as required.
Training & Supervision
  • Meet regularly with the program director for programmatic and clinical supervision.
  • Attend staff meetings and required trainings.
Work Environment & Physical Demands The work environment includes both office and school settings, requiring travel to multiple school sites within San Mateo County. This role involves direct interaction with youth, families, and school staff in a variety of environments, including classrooms, counseling offices, and community spaces. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods, as well as occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds. Flexibility in scheduling may be needed to accommodate school and program needs, including occasional evening meetings or events. Disclaimers

Salary Description The hourly rate for this position is $30-$33 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined through salary benchmarking to ensure alignment with industry standards and is contingent upon grant funding approval. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with 4+ years of experience in social work or a similar field, or a Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field with 1+ year of experience working with youth and families.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 or similar software.
  • Availability Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with flexibility based on school schedules.
  • Ability to assess and provide therapy to a diverse population of clients and students.
  • Strong diplomatic and collaborative skills in a school environment while maintaining confidentiality standards.
  • Strong cultural competency and awareness.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • TB Test clearance within last 2 years (required for work on school district sites).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in crisis management, collaboration, school services, and provision of training.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or other languages.
