Our client, a construction company in Kenilworth, NJ is seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to oversee the financial management and accounting operations of their growing company. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction accounting and financial reporting, along with the ability to lead and improve day-to-day financial processes. This is a key leadership position reporting directly to ownership, with responsibility for the full accounting cycle, financial strategy support, and compliance oversight.Key Responsibilities:

• Utilize accounting software such as Foundation and QuickBooks to manage financial workflows
• Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and job cost tracking
• Develop and manage financial reporting systems; generate accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
• Prepare and analyze job cost reports and project-specific profit & loss statements
• Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts in collaboration with leadership
• Maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards
• Coordinate with external CPA firm on tax filings and year-end reporting
• Oversee payroll processing and related filings
• Manage insurance, bonding, and contract documentation across all active projects
• Supervise and support junior accounting staff or administrative personnel
• Provide financial insights to inform business decisions and support operational efficiency

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in construction or a project-based environment
• Prior experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant role
• Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel; experience with Foundation Construction Accounting Software preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Solid understanding of GAAP and construction-specific financial workflows
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication ability
• Must be able to pass a background check and provide professional references

The compensation for this position ranges from $150,000.00 - $175,000.00.
