Software Development Engineer III - Expedia Global Payments

The Software Development Engineer III position is part of the Payment Vault team within Expedia Global Payments, under the Book-to-Trip division. This team builds and maintains Tier-0 and Tier-1 vaulting systems that securely store and manage travelers' payment data, ensuring that payment details are reliably and compliantly available across bookings.
Our services are designed with high security, scalability, and availability in mind, supporting both pay-in and pay-out transactions on a global scale. As a key engineer on this team, you'll apply your passion for backend development, cloud computing, and modern engineering practices to solve real-world challenges that impact millions of travelers worldwide.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend payment services that support Expedia's global travel platform
Apply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions
Implement secure data handling practices to protect payment information and meet compliance standards
Recommend and apply architectural patterns or GenAI capabilities to improve system design and innovation
Enhance service reliability through observability, automation, and continuous operational improvements
Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features aligned with Expedia's strategic goals
Experience and Qualifications:
You have a Bachelor's degree or Masters in a related technical field; or possess equivalent related professional experience
You have 4+ years of experience in backend software development, working with cloud-based and distributed systems at scale
You are proficient in Java/J2EE, C#, or similar object-oriented languages, and have hands-on experience integrating services with relational and NoSQL databases
You have contributed to multiple multi-quarter, cross-team projects and have supported complex distributed systems in production through monitoring, debugging, incident resolution and root-cause analysis
You are experienced with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure/test automation, and delivering features/values continuously in Agile development environments
Preferred: You have worked on payment platforms or implemented backend services leveraging GenAI technologies
