Responsibilities

The successful candidate for the AVP, Property/Multiline Claims position will be responsible for handling large first-party commercial property, business interruption, and property damage claims arising under first-party and third-party policies. The role also involves financial analysis of lost business income claims and employing loss control and mitigation strategies. The AVP will interact with the VP of claims and executive management on all significant claims, develop investigative plans and strategies, employ loss mitigation measures, and make reserving recommendations. The successful candidate must demonstrate a record of executing resolution plans consistently within authority through negotiation.

  • Proactively manage first-party property and third-party property damage losses from inception to closure, including investigation of coverage, determination of policy obligations, loss investigation, interaction with insureds and their representatives, retention of vendors, loss evaluation, and efficient and prompt execution of an appropriate resolution plan.
  • Handle business interruption claims, including analyzing financial statements and implementing loss mitigation strategies.
  • Handle fast-track auto, GL casualty, and multiline claims arising under commercial package policies, such as crime, inland marine, and pollution products.
  • Negotiate claims to resolution with insureds, claimants, and their representatives.
  • Draft frequent and complex coverage correspondence, including reservation of rights and coverage disclaimers in compliance with various state statutes and regulations.
  • Compose a variety of other detailed correspondence to insureds, claimants, attorneys, agents, and regulatory agencies.
  • Establish appropriate loss and expense reserves in adherence to reserving guidelines.
  • Manage third-party administrator adjusters and provide guidance and oversight from the home office.
  • Document claim file activity, including current strategy, plan of action, and exit plan in file notes.
  • Ensure compliance with department guidelines and best practices.
  • Present frequently to executive management to discuss loss facts, issues, and resolution recommendations.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with emphasis in Business, Insurance, or a related field. An accounting background or advanced insurance certification is preferred.

  • Ten years of progressively responsible experience in commercial property insurance claims, including first-party property and business interruption.
  • Licensed adjuster in necessary jurisdictions.
  • Advanced knowledge of claims operating practices, litigation laws, and regulations.
  • Understanding of forensic accounting and lost business income claims.
  • Experience handling multiple lines of coverage such as first and third-party property, crime, inland marine, and pollution products.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Possess a strong customer orientation.
  • Ability to travel as needed and work outside normal hours to fulfill responsibilities.
