We're representing a respected building engineering firm seeking an Associate Principal to lead its healthcare market sector in Chicago. This is a senior leadership role focused on managing a growing team, building client partnerships, and delivering technically excellent MEP design for hospitals, clinics, and other complex healthcare environments.

This position combines strategic thinking, team leadership, and hands-on technical expertise. You'll guide studio operations, shape market growth strategies, and take a lead role in high-value project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership across the healthcare division, overseeing day-to-day operations and long-term planning
• Lead design and delivery for healthcare MEP projects, ensuring quality, compliance, and client satisfaction
• Partner with firm leadership on resource planning, financial performance, and studio operations
• Take a central role in client development, proposal strategy, and pursuit planning
• Mentor and manage a team of engineers, designers, and project leads
• Coordinate across internal disciplines including mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and sustainability
• Drive operational improvements, standardization, and QA/QC across the studio
• Contribute technical guidance on complex projects and serve as a trusted advisor to clients

What You Bring

• 10+ years of building systems design experience, with a clear focus on healthcare or complex institutional projects
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Proven success leading project teams, developing staff, and growing a market sector
• Familiarity with current healthcare design standards, codes, and best practices
• A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills with both technical teams and client stakeholders
• Business-savvy with the ability to balance design excellence with project performance
• MBA is a plus
