The Role :

Reports to : Chief Executive Officer

Location : Based in the New York City office, with significant remote work flexibility offered through the GIIN's hybrid in-person / remote work model.

Team : Lead a team of six and supervise four direct reports.

Overview : This position is an integral part of the GIIN executive team and plays a central role in fueling the growth and dynamism of the organization. The GIIN has benefited from strong partnerships to achieve its mission and is embarking on a significant expansion of its programmatic portfolio and impact. This role is designed for a collaborative, entrepreneurial leader who is skilled in building partnerships with a diverse set of organizations and individuals committed to investing in a more just and sustainable world.

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Partnership Officer (CPO) is responsible for the overall strategic direction, leadership, execution, and management of GIIN's fundraising strategies and grants management, with accountability for developing and executing against annual and multi-year revenue targets. The position is a key part of the seven-person executive team and contributes significantly to organizational strategy and external relations.

Key Responsibilities :

Leadership and Strategy

Engage as a member of the GIIN's Executive Team :

  • Contribute to the GIIN's mission evolution, strategy development, organizational planning, and execution.
  • Engage the Board, Executive Team, and broader staff to achieve revenue targets, build upon their existing relationships with major individual and institutional funders, and mobilize their involvement in GIIN fundraising initiatives.
  • Serve as a GIIN spokesperson, presenting the GIIN's mission, priorities, and areas of work, as well as representing its position on important issues in the impact investing industry.
  • Promote the GIIN's values, culture, and mission, and its commitment to human dignity, justice, equality, and respect through mentorship, modeling behavior, and tangible actions.

Fundraising and Partnership Development

  • Lead the creation and execution of a multi-year strategy and donor engagement plan for increasing revenue, growing the GIIN's donor base, and diversifying revenue sources to support financial health and resilience.
  • Develop strategic funding partnerships, including generating partnership concepts, overseeing proposal development, and aligning budgets, timelines, and collaboration details with donors. Collaborate with program teams and the finance department on project design and budgets.
  • Identify and cultivate prospective donors, aiming to secure high-value, strategically aligned grants and partnerships.
  • Develop a comprehensive annual work plan and lead the team in executing it.

Grant Management & Donor Relations

  • Ensure impeccable stewardship of grant resources by overseeing tracking plans, ongoing management, and monitoring against grant requirements, collaborating with program teams.
  • Work closely with the GIIN's Finance team to ensure accurate tracking against grant budgets, provide regular revenue forecasts, and ensure compliance with regulatory, GAAP, or funder obligations.
  • Oversee the production of accurate, timely, high-quality grant reports to funders.
  • Collaborate with programmatic teams to support donor relationship management, proactively aligning expectations when priorities shift.
  • Maintain transparent communication and trust through adaptive, mission-aligned engagement.

Department & Team Management

  • Supervise, lead, and inspire the Development team to achieve objectives and improve fundraising effectiveness.
  • Manage the Development department's portfolio, personnel, and budget, updating as needed to reflect shifting priorities.
  • Oversee professional development plans for direct reports, coaching and supporting their growth.

Leadership and Management

  • Strong management skills, including planning, evaluation, motivating staff, financial management, organizational development, and governance.
  • Ability to influence and persuade across organizational levels to support development goals.
  • Strategic, conceptual thinker capable of synthesizing complex issues and making clear decisions amid ambiguity.

Fundraising

  • Proven ability to design and implement effective fundraising strategies and execute detailed plans.
  • Experience in creating strategic partnerships aligned with funders' interests and GIIN's priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of telling compelling stories and managing proposal development.

Relationship Management & Donor Stewardship

  • Track record of cultivating and maintaining relationships with high-value donors and partners.
  • Effective communication across diverse cultures and audiences.
  • Ability to guide teams and foster a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

Industry Knowledge

  • A belief in capital deployment as a social and environmental impact solution.
  • Understanding of the impact investing market and related frameworks is beneficial but not required.
  • Interest in investment and capital markets is advantageous.

Professional Experience :

  • 15+ years in senior leadership roles within mission-driven organizations.
  • 10+ years in fundraising with a successful track record in securing major grants in the six to seven-figure range.
  • Experience with diverse donor pools, including high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and foundations.
  • Experience with CRM systems preferred; Salesforce knowledge is a plus.
  • Commitment to principles of human dignity, justice, equality, and respect, with ongoing learning in these areas.

Education :

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degrees preferred. Background in Business, Finance, Public Policy, or related fields is a plus but not mandatory.

Work Authorization :

  • Must have valid authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

Compensation & Benefits :

  • Salary range $180,000-$205,000, plus up to $20,000 in performance incentives. Salary determined by experience, with excellent benefits.
