Overview
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Private Equity Valuation, is a key member of Bayview's Finance team. This role leads the valuation control function for Bayview's private equity investments, ensuring rigorous oversight and independent valuation analysis in accordance with ASC 820, internal policy, and industry best practices. The AVP collaborates closely with the investment team, third-party valuation firms, auditors, and senior finance leadership, playing a critical role in the valuation process and portfolio transparency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and oversee the monthly and quarterly valuation process for Bayview's diverse portfolio of private equity and credit investments.
- Review and validate valuation methodologies across a range of instruments and company stages (e.g., early stage, private equity, high growth). Perform valuation analyses using methodologies such as market comparables, Income Approach ( DCFs), and recent transaction analysis
- Take ownership and accountability for building, updating and reviewing valuation models, scenario analyses, and sensitivity tests (e.g. quarterly discounted cash flow (DCF) models, comparable analyses, option pricing models) and valuation templates for portfolio investments
- Review and challenge third-party valuation reports and work closely with third party valuation agents
- Ability to challenge the valuation methodologies proposed by the investment team
- Oversee the gathering of financial data (financial statements, comps, market data) and inputting assumptions to assess each investment's fair value
- Evaluate portfolio company performance through detailed financial statement analysis and benchmarking including analyze historical and projected financial statements for each investment to assess and evaluate underlying financial information for models
- Compile documentation to support the key assumptions and inputs used in valuation models (such as growth rates, discount rates, EBITDA multiples) and assess the reasonableness of these assumptions
- Coordinate review, investment updates and data source validation with private equity investment team and underlying portfolio companies
- Oversee outsource providers, internal resources and technology solutions to update the valuation models monthly and/or quarterly
- Maintain and produce valuation and performance schedules or dashboards that track each portfolio holding's valuation over time; prepare summaries to review results with senior finance executives and investment team
- Ability to analyze and summarize key valuation drivers and structures
- Oversee the preparation, review and presentation for the monthly valuation committee meetings and liaise with auditors to address inquiries
- Ensure existing supporting technology is optimally utilized and contribute to enhancing and streamlining the valuation group's processes, templates, and analytics.
SKILLS/KNOWLeDGE/ABILITIES:
- Strong working knowledge and expertise with core valuation methodologies including DCF/Income, Transaction Approach, Asset Approach, Yield Analysis, Market Approach, Option Modeling Pricing)
- Capable of thriving in a dynamic, fast paced environment
- Strong Excel, Power Point, analytical and financial modeling skills required
- Expertise with Bloomberg and CAP IQ required
- Experience with 73 Strings a plus
- VBA, SQL, Alteryx a plus
- Strong understanding of ASC 820 and related valuation guidance
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong attention to detail
- Ability to take ownership of issues, multitask, manage their own time and work independently
- Ability to oversee various resources, including offshore valuation providers
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across various teams/groupsBachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting or similar discipline
- 7+ years of pricing and valuation experience at an asset management firm, hedge fund, advisory/consulting firm or similar environment.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATION
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred
LOCATION & COMPENSATION:
- This is a hybrid position (3 days onsite) based in Bayview's New York, NY office. We have existing team members based in this location.
- Base compensation is expected to be $160,000-180,000, with opportunity for incentive compensation including a performance-based bonus.
