REPORTS TO: SEMTA Board President & Management Team

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

WHO WE ARE: The Southeastern Michigan Tennis Association (SEMTA) has one mission: to grow and promote the game of tennis in Southeastern Michigan. We serve nine counties: Hillsdale, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne. District programs include leagues, tournaments, and junior activities.

WHO YOU ARE:The Executive Director of the Southeast Michigan Tennis Association (SEMTA) is responsible for managing the services, policies, staff, budget, and programs of the district while serving at the discretion of the District's Board of Directors and reporting directly to the Management Committee of the District Board of Directors. This full-time, exempt position provides leadership and direction to ensure alignment with SEMTA's mission of promoting, developing, and growing the game of tennis in the district.

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON:

  • Provide strategic leadership, guidance, and vision in collaboration with the SEMTA Board of Directors.
  • Manage the daily operations of the district office, ensuring efficient, professional, and compliant practices.
  • Supervise and support all staff, creating clear expectations and fostering a respectful, collaborative work culture.
  • Oversee and manage the district's financial affairs, including strategic planning, budgeting, reconciliations, and expense tracking.
  • Prepare annual budgets in collaboration with the Treasurer and Finance Committee and in accordance with the strategic plan.
  • Review and code all expenses; process payments and deposits.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations and present financial updates to the Board, including analysis of budget versus plan.
  • Administer insurance, payroll, and benefits policies.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard district assets and records.
  • Coordinate with USTA Midwest and National on compliance, grant administration, and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of district programs and events, including leagues, tournaments, and junior tennis initiatives.
  • Lead marketing, promotion, and registration efforts for events.
  • Evaluate and adjust program offerings to meet evolving community needs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to CTAs, clubs, schools, and external partners, ensuring engagement across the community.
  • Manage all aspects of staff hiring, onboarding, evaluation, and, when necessary, separation.
  • Maintain all vendor relationships. - Ensure timely and transparent communication to the Board, committees, and stakeholders.
  • Represent SEMTA with professionalism at internal and external events.
  • Serve as primary spokesperson for SEMTA.
  • Communicate regularly with USTA Midwest, SEMTA members, clubs, and partners.
  • Maintain the website, social media, and newsletters in collaboration with staff.

SPECIAL PROJECTS:

Special projects may be assigned from time to time by the President of the Board of Directors and/or the Management Committee.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in nonprofit management, business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in nonprofit or sports management, including supervisory and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital tools for operations.
  • Familiarity with USTA structure and programs strongly preferred.

Environmental Conditions - Amount of Time

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally for event management.
  • Professional demeanor and discretion in handling sensitive matters.

TRAVEL

  • Travel required less than 5%
  • Travel destinations: within the SEMTA district andUSTA Midwest section meeting locations
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation for district-wide travel.
