Job Description :

The Boston Medical Center Health System (BMCHS) Inclusive Management Administrative Fellowship is a highly selective, one-year postgraduate training program that broadens the candidate's healthcare administration knowledge and enhances their hands-on skills, with the aim of assisting them in building a successful career as a healthcare administrator.

The fellowship is semi-structured and preceptor-driven. Each fellow will have an opportunity to rotate through clinical and functional areas of the hospital, shadowing staff members to gain a direct view into their day-to-day operations. Areas include, but are not limited to, operations, human resources, finance, and quality. Senior leaders at Boston Medical Center provide formal mentorship.

Example Projects

Fellows work on a wide range of projects across hospital and health system. A few examples of potential projects include:

  • Identifying hospital growth opportunities (e.g. radiology, infusion, SNFs)
  • Responding to a state RFP to provide respite services
  • Designing a program to improve behavioral health quality measures (ACOs, e.g.)
  • Implementing a new care management program focused on reducing unnecessary medical expense
  • Project management and implementation of new systems
  • Process improvement of operational workflows
  • Interim management of units
Professional Support and Mentorship

Each fellow will be paired with a senior leader (VP or higher) who will serve as their mentor throughout the program. Fellows will meet with their mentors to discuss their overall career goals and learning objectives for the fellowship. Additionally, the mentor will meet regularly with fellows to discuss project progress, provide coaching and feedback, and answer questions about BMC and healthcare administration more broadly.

Who Can Apply

This fellowship is open to candidates who are within one year of the completion of their postgraduate education. A minimum of a master's degree is required to apply.

We are committed to advancing diversity in healthcare leadership, so candidates from groups that are underrepresented in medicine are encouraged to apply.
