About the Role

The Director of Clinical Operations (Organ Procurement) must be dedicated to supporting the mission of OneLegacy. Working with OneLegacy's Leadership team, the Director will champion OneLegacy's philosophy and be committed to being knowledgeable about best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight of the day-to-day operations within the OneLegacy Donor Care Units (DCUs).
  • Ensures effective operations within clinical and procedural areas: Critical Care, CRRT, Cath Lab, CT, and Surgical Suites.
  • Ensures effective staffing levels are maintained.
  • Ensures clinical compliance to all CMS, UNOS and AOPO standards.
  • Assesses training needs of Procurement Transplant Coordinator/Advanced Practice Coordinator (PTC/APC) staff and ensures implementation of ongoing training programs.
  • Provides PTC/APC performance reports to VPCO.
  • Provides daily oversight of the clinical training for organ clinical staff.
  • Assures quality control reviews of staff records to maintain regulatory and competency compliance.
  • Creates strategies and plans for clinical staff development based upon events and needs of current and future organ operations clinical staff.
  • Collaborates with Medical Directors and clinical training staff on new hire orientation, ongoing competency training and as needed clinical training sessions.
  • Manages assigned staff toward accomplishment of OneLegacy's mission, including recruitment and selection, scheduling and job assignment, training and development, counseling and coaching, appraisal and recognition, salary recommendations, promotional recommendations, and disciplinary actions in accord with existing policies and procedures.
  • Assures adequate staffing levels to promote high and efficient performance.
  • Assists staff to identify and attain professional goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a team environment.
  • Provides feedback to staff and leadership and takes appropriate steps to improve staff performance.
  • Counsels and disciplines staff based on policies and procedures.
  • Assumes 24-hour responsibility in rotation with other department staff, providing sound and consistent advice regarding risk management and resource issues.
  • Conducts department meetings.
  • Reviews authorization rates for staff and works with corresponding managers to ensure competency.
  • Performs employee performance management reviews for the department.
  • Actively participates in organ committees.
  • Approves time-off requests and manages staff time sheets.
  • Works with Operations to develop and manage operating and capital budgets to ensure responsible control over and utilization of OneLegacy resources.
  • Maintains, completes, and submits accurate records and expenses.
  • Maintains an adequate proficiency level with the use of office equipment to enable completion of assigned duties (i.e. computers, cell phones, databases, etc.).
  • Assures compliance with established quality assurance standards as well as local, state, and federal regulations relating to organ procurement to demonstrate commitment to quality.
  • Participates in strategic planning with the executive leadership team and implements strategic planning in designated areas.
  • Works with leadership team to attain OneLegacy's strategic plan, organizational goals, and performance metrics.
  • Assures quality control reviews of donor referral family care and donor management data from electronic and paper records to ensure established criteria are met.
  • Actively participates in Advisory Board and organ specific committee meetings.
  • Maintains professional competence in order to provide leadership and consultative services to staff, donor hospitals, and transplant centers.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the Organ and Tissue Donation Process through active membership in professional associations and attendance at workshops and seminars.
  • Takes a leadership role in staff education and training.
  • Defines personal and professional goals and develops a plan, with support from the VPCO to achieve these goals.
  • Continuously seeks opportunities to improve job performance.
  • Oversees the sign-off of all Organ Procurement Policies and Procedures, events within the Organ Operations department, and all collaborative Quality Assurance (QA) projects needing Organ Operation direction.
  • Maintains quarterly data reports on timeliness of PTC/APC correction completions.
  • Works with Quality department to review month-end summary of department related events.
  • Provides bi-annual summary of Process Improvement (PI) status to VPCO.
  • Oversees the department Dashboard(s) ensuring that Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) are established and being monitored, action plans are developed, and interventions (when necessary) are implemented.
  • Collaborates with Quality Systems, as required, to develop corrective action plans in response to internal and external audits.
  • Consults with the VPCO about unusual occurrences and risk management issues.
  • Promotes a quality plan within the organization and within clinical Operations.
  • Supports the organization's Standards of Professional Conduct as outlined in OneLegacy Policies and Procedures and is the example of OneLegacy's mission, vision and values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Observes a code of ethics that requires truthfulness, honesty and personal integrity in all activities.

Qualifications

  • Education: Four-year college degree is required. Course work in behavioral sciences, social sciences or other health related fields preferred. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 4+ years of critical care experience and/or equivalency of nurse management is required. 3+ years of prior management experience managing a diverse group of professionals, with at least three (3) years in a health-related field required.
  • Certification/License: Reliable automotive transportation is required. OneLegacy requires employees to maintain a current California driver's license and current vehicle insurance. Must be currently licensed as an RN in California.
