Position Summary
We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Plant Controller to lead all accounting operations at our Chicago Heights, IL facility. This hands-on position is responsible for the direction and supervision of the accounting functions, as well as supporting plant operations with financial insights and process improvements. The role will oversee two closely located recycling plants under common management and will have one direct report.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, customer invoicing, and vendor processing.
- Manage the monthly and annual close processes using Oracle and Hyperion systems.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
- Reconcile raw material flow from receipt through production to finished goods and customer delivery, ensuring accurate costing and tracking.
- Co-lead quarterly physical inventory and oversee spare parts and fixed asset inventories.
- Provide information for monthly and annual sales tax filings and assist with corporate tax-related reporting.
- Lead capital project accounting: review and submit ACR/AFE forms, track project spend, and report KPIs.
- Support internal, external, government, and banking audits, ensuring compliance with SOX requirements and internal controls.
- Collaborate with plant and business unit management on financial, administrative, and strategic matters.
- Participate in plant productivity initiatives using standard cost calculations and savings tracking methodologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required); advanced degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in a plant controller or similar finance/accounting leadership role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Office tools.
- Experience with Oracle (Cloud or On-Premise) and SmartView preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to operate independently and lead others toward achieving organizational goals.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; collaborative team player mindset.
- Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 5%).
