Title: Project Controls Specialist

Sterling Engineering is seeking a Project Controls Specialist for capital transmission and distribution projects based in Portland, OR. This position focuses heavily on cost control, with additional responsibility for project scheduling, data analysis, and cross-departmental coordination.
Job Duties:
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans and schedules using Primavera
- Create and maintain SAP project structures; monitor cost data, analyze variances, and ensure corrections are implemented
- Support multiple capital projects and provide project controls input to project managers
- Develop KPIs and monitor key performance indicators for continuous improvement
- Conduct research and analysis to identify process improvements and support compliance with corporate governance
- Collaborate with other departments and support project delivery teams as needed
- Complete ad hoc assignments in support of capital project execution
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (or equivalent experience)
- At least 3 years of experience in project controls, ideally supporting large construction or utility projects
- Familiarity with the project life cycle and construction processes
- Experience with Primavera scheduling tools, SAP, and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a team across various departments and project teams
Preferred:
- 2+ years of solid SAP project experience
- Experience in electric utility design and/or construction
- Understanding of utility industry standards, regulations, and operating environments
Schedule:
- Standard 40 hours/week
- Minimal overtime
- Typical schedule: 7:00–4:00 or 8:00–5:00 with 1-hour lunch (open to adjustments)
