The position of Mentor requires an overall commitment to the policies and procedures of the New Jersey GEAR UP/ College Bound program. Employment and/or continued employment is subject to successfully passing State Mandated Criminal Background Check. The position for Mentor reflects a person who shares their knowledge, skills, information and perspective to foster the academic growth of New Jersey GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs)/ College Bound participants. Mentors are examples of the academic goal of the NJ GEAR UP and role models that inspire NJ GEAR UP students. The power of mentoring is that it creates a one-of-a kind opportunity for collaboration, goal achievement, and problem-solving. Mentors are assigned to work with participants in the program to foster academic growth through activities such as one-on-one mentoring, group mentoring, tutoring, classes/workshops, and field trips.
