Job Description

Registers patients and provides information regarding Hospital policies and regulations. Interviews patients to obtain demographic and insurance information. Performs a variety of clerical duties related to bed management.

Job Responsibility

  • * Interviews patients or authorized representative, by phone or directly, to obtain and verify demographic and insurance coverage information.Enters information into department computer system. Expedites admitting process through pre-registration of patients.
  • * Communicates hospital policies and regulations pertaining to valuables, visiting hours, etc.
  • * Generates and assembles patient registration and admission forms Distributes patient packet to appropriate clinical areas in a timely manner.
  • * Makes appointments for patients, answers questions and provides information regarding admissions, assessment, and program services.
  • * Facilitates patient admissions from physicians practices, in conjunction with OR scheduling for surgical patients.
  • * Monitors inpatient census for reporting purposes. Identifies bed availability and establishes daily targets. Schedules appointments, reserves beds, and anticipates overflow situations. Places appointment reminder calls, as required.
  • * Maintains and updates daily census by monitoring patient location, available beds, and discharge / transfer status. Assigns patient beds and coordinates patient flow through tele-tracking.
  • * Maintains ongoing communication with all clinical areas, staff, patient/family, environmental, etc.
  • * Answer telephones in accordance with hospital standards. Screens and directs calls, takes and relays messages.
  • * Compiles statistics for department and state reporting and prepares reports for review by management
  • Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Coursework or training in secretarial studies, medical terminology or business, preferred.
  • Minimum of six (6) months registration and scheduling experience in a healthcare setting, required.
  • Typing 30 wpm and/or data entry skills (80 keystrokes per minute), required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing).
