Gessner Engineering is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Survey Technician to join our Survey team. This is an entry-level role ideal for individuals beginning their career in land surveying and CAD drafting. The position offers hands-on experience in boundary and topographic surveying, CAD production, and data processing under the guidance of experienced Surveyors and CAD Technicians.Responsibilities
- Assist in deed research, deed plotting, and title document review
- Draft plats, exhibits, and legal descriptions using AutoCAD and Carlson software
- Plot maps showing boundaries, topography, easements, and right-of-way
- Import and process field data collected by survey crews
- Prepare field calculations and staking data for crews under supervision
- Generate surface models (TIN), contours, and material quantity estimates
- Perform coordinate geometry (COGO) calculations such as intersections, inverses, curves, and area
- Ensure drawings meet internal CAD standards and QA/QC procedures
- Collaborate with Project Surveyors, Engineers, and Field Crews to complete survey deliverables
- Occasionally accompany field crews to support field-to-office coordination and data collection
- Maintain awareness of project timelines, deliverables, and scope of work
QualificationsRequired:
- Basic proficiency in AutoCAD (Civil 3D)
- Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred (Not Required):
- Associate degree or coursework in surveying, drafting, geomatics, or a related field
- Experience with survey instruments or exposure to field operations
- Familiarity with land records, title documents, and construction plans
- Knowledge of basic geometry, trigonometry, and coordinate systems
