Groundskeeper/General Maintenance Tech

Missouri Delta Medical Center

Sikeston, Missouri

Summary of Position: The Groundskeeper/General Maintenance Tech is responsible for performing maintenance work, care and modification of hospital grounds and landscapes. Repairs and maintains groundskeeping equipment and tools as well as carries out preventive maintenance programs.

Function of Position:

1. Complies with all hospital standards and policies with a focus on safety.

2. Works under the direct supervision of the Plant Superintendent, Maintenance Tech II, and/or alongside Maintenance Tech II.

3. Assist in Environmental Services or Laundry Departments when needed.

4. Performs assigned groundskeeping duties. Keeps grounds free of trash and debris.

5. Operates electrically powered and gasoline powered groundskeeping equipment and machines.

6. Use small hand and power tools or equipment in cultivating and trimming grounds landscaping.

7. Performs maintenance on groundskeeping equipment and tools and make minor repairs as directed.

8. Assist in general maintenance work, moving and lifting equipment as directed.

9. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize work, and work independently to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

10. Ability to solve problems and identify solutions.

11. Performs preventive maintenance, routine inspections noting deficiencies and initiating repairs.

12. Duties include but are not limited to landscaping, changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, minor window and roof repairs, painting, carpentry, plumbing, moving or assembling furniture and equipment, and delivering supplies, materials, and equipment as needed.

13. Retrieves and documents transfer of accountability of surplus property, provides custodial services, etc.

14. Attends scheduled meetings, participates in on-going training and education, and reads memos to keep up on changes in the hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

15. Assist with on-call duties.

16. Assist with ice and snow removal.

17. Perform maintenance and safety inspections on hospital owned automobiles (fleet). Performs minor repairs on hospital fleet and keeps fleet vehicles interior/exterior clean.

18. Knowledge of hospital accreditation process, CMS, OSHA, state departments of health and other regulatory agencies.

19. Presents a neat and well-groomed appearance.

20. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:

Education: High School graduation or equivalent required

Driver's License: Valid Missouri Class E Driver's License required.

Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and ability as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Special:

On-Call Responsibility: Shares the on-call duties of the department.

Patient Contact: Minimal

Physical:

Standing: Majority of 8-hour shift spent standing.

Walking: Must be able to move throughout the hospital in the course of an 8-hour shift.

Lifting: Work involves lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Reaches for and handles tools and equipment parts.

Hearing: Subject to noise from machinery.
