A world leader in the maritime industry, Moran operates as a vessel agencyand maritime consulting firm to many of the world's most prominent ship owners, operators, and charterers. Presently Moran has 25 offices in the United States where it provides full-vessel agency attendance at over 80 ports along the East, Gulf and West Coasts, servicing all types of vessels ranging from the Ultra Large Cargo Carriers (ULCC's) to the smallest fishing boat.

Position Overview

Qualified candidates will be responsible for ensuring our clients vessels arrive and depart at their given port destinations in accordance with our clients' interest in conjunction with the regulations and standards set forth by governmental agencies and Moran. Candidates will coordinate with vessel along with government and port officials in setting berthing arrangements for each vessel.

Candidates will also contact and oversee essential vendor services such as pilotage, towage and labor while preparing and submitting a proforma estimate to the Principal as it relates to port costs. As a qualified candidate you will arrange for owner requirements when necessary and maintain a port log and other port documents and records as required.

Candidates will be required to maintain ongoing communications with Principal, as well as appropriate terminal personnel, shippers, receivers, vendors and government agencies. Candidates will also need to monitor the quality of services provided by vendors and be able to review vessel invoices for accuracy in terms of service time and published tariff, if available.

Qualified candidates must have good interpersonal as well oral and written communications skill. This position requires night and weekend work as well as the ability to work overtime. Some local travel is required by the position as well as the ability to board vessels. Personal Auto is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparation and/or review of proforma estimates to Principals.
  • Preparation or selective review of disbursement accounts prior to dissemination to Accounting Department.
  • Ensures that agent assignments under his/her supervision are administered in accordance with experience, expertise and with fairness concerning overtime and weekly hour accumulation.
  • Takes initiative in negotiating vendor contracts and discounts on behalf of clients.
  • Monitors vendor performance and recommends changes to management when appropriate.
  • Directly supervises the activities of boarding agent(s) and is responsible for their ongoing training.
  • Maintains relationship with key clients that support the activities of his/her office and will, from time to time, make sales calls to facilitate this effort.
  • Ensures that agents are familiar with the Company's Agency Attendance Policy as incorporated in the ISO documentation.
  • Encourages the input and actions of agents as it concerns potential policy or procedural changes in accordance with Company's ISO System.
  • Maintains working knowledge of vessels he/she assigns to Agents.

In order to perform the duties of a Vessel Manager, it is a requirement of employment that you will be able obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Workers Identification Card. (TWIC) along with a valid driver's license.

Qualifications:

  • Education: BS/BA degree or equivalent amount of education and experience
  • 2+ years of experience in maritime and/or agency operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Physical or environmental demands: Extended Hours. Some nights and weekends.
  • Local travel. Board's vessels. (Must be able to climb ladders – sometimes at steep angles.)
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card)
