Accounting Associate Are you a detail-oriented individual with a passion for numbers, ready to embrace the future of accounting? Smithers seeks a proactive Accounting Associate to join its innovative team and contribute to its commitment to efficiency, accuracy, and strategic growth. The position handles general accounting functions for our Smithers CTS division. The primary responsibilities include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger. What you'll be doing:
  • Preparing, entering data, and reporting all accounts receivable and accounts payable invoices for Smithers CTS businesses in Dynamics SL accounting software.
  • Preparing bi-weekly AP check run selection register for processing.
  • Validating and confirming purchase orders and receiving documents to vendor invoices.
  • Participating in monthly close, assisting Finance Business Partner with closing entries and financial reporting.
  • Preparing account reconciliations (cash, AP & Purchasing ledgers) and corresponding journal entries.
  • Monitoring cash levels and reconciles/reports cash GL accounts.
  • Working as a team with accounting staff and other departments, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preparing emails, letters, and calls for collection to delinquent clients for Smithers CTS.
  • Creating weekly and monthly reports for supervisor.
  • Creating, updating, and maintaining Accounts Receivable SOPs as needed.
  • Assisting supervisor with various duties as necessary.
Who we are looking for:
  • 3+ years of experience is required
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting required; or equivalent work experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and standards
  • Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Excel is required (managing and interpreting data, pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics SL is preferred
  • Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attributes including a customer focus, an entrepreneurial mindset, responsiveness, and a consistently principled approach to their responsibilities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
