Salary : $99,444.80 AnnuallyLocation : Westerville OH 43081, OHJob Type: Full-timeJob Number: 01232Department: ELECTRICDivision: LINE MAINTENANCEOpening Date: 07/21/2025 Description This is skilled journeyman overhead and underground electrical work in the restoration, installation, and maintenance of electrical lines on a shift. Work involves handling customer service calls, performing electrical hot line work, and restoring power on primary and secondary lines. Work involves exposure to personal danger and may be performed under severe weather conditions. SUPERVISION Employee works under the direction of a line supervisor. Employees are subject to being called in for emergencies. The employee must have the ability to work independently with all voltages including primary lines, complying with safety procedures and respond to emergency calls. Work is reviewed through submission of daily reports and review of completed projects for quality and adherence with policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK(May not include all duties performed.)Performs line construction and maintenance work; responds to customer calls; installs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground lines and distribution equipment; sets new poles, strings conductors, and makes splices and taps; performs primary, secondary, overhead, and underground line and cable work; locates, diagnoses and repairs electrical distribution problems; upgrades primary conductors, converts primary circuits to higher voltages.Installs conductors, transformers, reclosers, switches, and primary fuses in transformers; tests voltage and loads of lines and customer service entrances; connect and disconnects temporary services.Climbs wood and steel poles and other elevated structures; operates bucket and digger trucks, trenching machines, backhoe, forklift, and other heavy equipment; operates substation.Communicates with the public; explains power outages and other electrical problems; responds to complaints of power problems.Installs, repairs, and maintains street lights.Cleans and maintains trucks and equipment.May assume duties in absence of the Supervisor.Performs other related duties as required.Typical QualificationsPossession of a high school diploma and 4 years progressively responsible experience as a lineman and completion of power lineman courses; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, and tools, and equipment used in the installation, extension, and repair of electric lines.Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards of the job.Considerable knowledge of the safe and correct use of heavy equipment, hand and power tools common to the work.Knowledge of electrical theory.Ability to locate, diagnose, and repair defects in electrical distribution system.Ability to climb poles and to perform maintenance on high voltage lines.Ability to train subordinate linemen.Ability to work precisely under extreme weather conditions.Ability to meet physical demands of the job including pole climbing.Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret electrical diagrams and plans.Ability to operate tools and heavy equipment used in electrical distribution installation, maintenance, and repair operations.Ability to communicate effectively with other employees, contractors, other agencies, and the public.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Ability to use computers and various software programs.Available for twenty-four hour emergency call. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK Possession of a valid Ohio Commercial class A with air brakes driver's license.Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR Training certification.Completion of Power Lineman Courses and Certification as Journeyman Lineman.HEALTH BENEFITSEmployees pay 15% of the monthly medical insurance premium through United Healthcare which includes prescription coverage. Employee, Employee plus child(ren), Employee plus spouse and family coverage is available. However, a spouse who has affordable health care coverage through their employer must elect that coverage as primary. The City health care plan is a high deductible healthcare plan.HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNTAnnually, the City will deposit 85% of your health insurance deductible amount into an HSA account in your name.VISION AND DENTALThe City pays 100% of the premium for dental and vision. Coverage levels will be explained in further detail at time of hire.LIFE INSURANCEThe City pays 100% of the premium on a $100,000 life insurance policy for employee and $10,000 for spouse and $5,000 for child.RETIREMENT PENSIONThe City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. The employee pension payment share is 10% of gross salary.VACATIONNew employees accrue two weeks of paid vacation every year.
