Job Description :

Who we are:

We love what we do and what we do is important! We believe that everyone should leave feeling better – this means not just our guests and owners, but also our teammates. Everyone should go home feeling better because they learned something new or had fun working that day. Therefore, we hire unique individuals who work together to create amazing experiences for our guests. We recognize that every member of the team contributes to the success of the whole organization. No one is more important than anyone else, and unless we are in it together, we can't create that special experience for our guests.

Your mission:

Should you choose to accept it…

If you consider yourself crafty, skilled, great at fixing things, or even in the same category as “Tim the Tool Man Taylor” (from the Home Improvement TV show), then we have a job for you. We are looking for an experienced leader who can manage, motivate, and inspire a team of Home Depot-loving aficionados to ensure everything in the hotel is in good working order.

The Director of Engineering is responsible for maintaining the overall operation of the maintenance department and the appearance and working order of the hotel. Responsibilities include maintaining the exterior of the building, sidewalks, parking lot, common areas, all equipment in guest rooms, conducting safety inspections, training staff on safety and emergency procedures, and working with vendors. The Director must respond to emergencies and collaborate with corporate maintenance on remodeling projects or capital expenditures. This role requires maintenance knowledge and troubleshooting skills across painting, HVAC, carpentry, and equipment handling.

The Nitty-Gritty:

What exactly you will be doing…

In helping you understand your role in working for a progressive, environmentally conscious, world-class organization, here are your essential responsibilities. Please note this list is not exhaustive, and you may be asked to perform other tasks to provide exceptional guest service:

  • Review contracts and negotiate revisions with vendors, consultants, and suppliers.
  • Requisition supplies and materials for construction projects.
  • Coordinate with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals during property openings.
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to staff and clients.
  • Plan, organize, and direct maintenance activities.
  • Prepare budgets and track project costs.
  • Develop and implement quality control programs.
  • Inspect projects for compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Work with building code officials and community design committees as needed.
  • Manage utility systems.
  • Experience in equipment specification and purchasing is preferred.
  • Maintain communication with the Home Office Team (HOT).
  • Coach and counsel employees to meet Virgin service standards.

What qualities are we looking for?

If you have the skills below, you might be the right fit:

  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse backgrounds.
  • 6+ years of progressive hotel or building management experience.
  • Experience with hotel pre-opening is preferred.
  • Service-oriented with professional presentation skills.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
  • High energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leadership, effective communication, and customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Background must-haves:

  • Legal, unrestricted ability to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least 6 years in a senior facility management or hotel engineering role.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and pleasantly in English, both in person and on the phone.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
