JOB SUMMARY:Responsible for supervising and participating in the division's inspection activities.
REPORTS TO: The Inspection Services Administrator assigns work in terms of very general instructions.
Possession of Level III Standard Certifications in Building, Plumbing, Electrical and Mechanical or the ability to obtain within 2 years.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Inspection Services Administrator assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include North Carolina building codes; subdivision and zoning ordinance; North Carolina General Statutes; and personnel policies. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied administrative, building inspection, and supervisory duties. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to supervise and participate in the City's inspection services. Success in this position contributes to the enforcement of building codes.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, architects, engineers, surveyors, contractors, property owners, and members of the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, provide services, motivate and influence persons, and justify or settle matters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and distinguishes between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over Multi-Trade Building Trades Inspector positions (6).
