Collinwood is assisting our client, a major sensor manufacturing company, in their efforts to hire a Product Manager. This role is located in Columbus, OH and will require on-site responsibilities.
The Product Manager is responsible for developing and executing business strategies to drive growth, profitability, and long-term product success. Acting as a mini-GM for their assigned product families or verticals, the Product Manager oversees the full lifecycle—from new product development through market growth and eventual product retirement. This role collaborates cross-functionally to optimize both revenue and profitability while bringing innovative solutions to market.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage a defined book of business (verticals/product families), developing strategic initiatives to meet growth and profit objectives.
- Lead cross-functional teams in delivering on growth, profitability, and operational targets for assigned areas.
- Influence revenue drivers across the business—including pricing, marketing, sales, channel strategies, and customer acquisition—to achieve growth goals.
- Manage cost structure in collaboration with Design, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to maximize profitability.
- Drive new product development initiatives, sometimes acting as project manager, to deliver innovative, customer-focused solutions on time and within budget.
- Optimize product line profitability by:
- Maximizing pricing opportunities based on lifecycle and market dynamics.
- Partnering with Operations to drive cost efficiencies.
- Managing product lifecycle decisions, including sunsetting underperforming products.
- Regularly assess product line performance for continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
- Create and communicate the clear value proposition for assigned business areas across internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Strategy, Engineering, and R&D to stay ahead of market changes, technological advancements, and competitive threats.
- Prepare executive-level reporting and presentations on product strategy and business performance.
- Work with customers, partners, and internal teams to identify and develop growth opportunities through structured new product introduction (NPI) processes.
- Manage working capital targets for the business area, including minimizing days in the cash cycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or Business.
- Technical degree with strong business/marketing acumen, or
- Business/marketing degree with demonstrated technical and analytical strength.
- MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant product management or marketing experience, ideally within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency in MS Office or similar productivity tools.
- Strong leadership and influence skills in cross-functional environments without direct authority.
- Demonstrated business, market, and operational expertise.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and multitasking skills.
- Visionary leadership with the ability to motivate cross-functional teams.
- Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
- Customer-facing experience with travel required.
