A leading company in the machinery manufacturing industry is seeking a Field Service Technician to support national clients with the installation, repair, and servicing of CNC and sheet metal equipment. Based in Chicago, this is a hands-on role that involves significant travel and customer interaction, making it ideal for someone with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and commission CNC machinery and sheet metal equipment at customer sites
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and testing of machines and system components
- Identify parts needed for replacement and coordinate orders
- Interpret technical drawings, layouts, and schematics
- Manage service calls with minimal supervision and clear communication
- Maintain service records and provide excellent customer support
Required Competencies:
Mechanical:
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems
- Ability to read mechanical layouts and engineering drawings
- Skilled in using standard hand tools for machine tool repair
Electrical:
- Basic knowledge of electrical safety procedures
- Ability to operate a multimeter for testing and diagnosis
General:
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Customer-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills
- Effective under pressure and capable of managing time independently
- Team player with solid verbal communication abilities
- Comfortable handling travel and the demands of a service-focused role
Education & Experience:
- College or university degree, or equivalent technical experience (preferred but not essential)
- Prior experience with CNC machinery or industrial equipment is strongly preferred
