Reports to: Dining Hall Manager Status/travel: Per diem position. Schedule will vary according to department and Kent School's needs. FLSA: Non-exempt Classification: Staff Hourly rate: $20/hour Position Summary: Per diem food service worker supports the daily operations of the food service department by performing a variety of tasks related to food preparation, service, and sanitation. This position works on an on-call or as needed basis to cover shifts and meet staffing needs. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Assist in the preparation, portioning, and serving of meals.
- Set up, clean, and maintain workstations, dining areas and food prep areas.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely (dishwashers, ovens, and others as appropriate).
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Assist with receiving, storing and rotating food and supply inventory.
- Ensure stations are well stocked.
- Provide high quality, courteous service to our guests.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, according to federal, state and local sanitation requirements.
- Work collaboratively with food service staff and other departments to support the operation.
- Ensure all items are labeled for allergens and identification.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: A combination of education and work experience in related fields. Preferably in a busy cafeteria-style environment. ServSafe certification is required (training will be provided if needed).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, working with various audiences (Faculty, Staff, and Students).
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and manage time effectively.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Work well under pressure.
- Able to work independently and make sound decisions with flexibility/adaptability and have a calm demeanor.
- Willingness to help team members if needed.
Physical Requirements: The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- Requires employees to be on their feet for extended periods, and climb stairs.
- Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
Work Environment:
- Fast-pace food service environment.
- May involve exposure to hot surfaces, cleaning chemicals and noise.
- Variable hours depending on need; not guaranteed regular weekly hours.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
- Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
- Work is performed on a smoke-free campus.
