Part-Time Receptionist

Knoxville Area Command is hiring for a Part-Time Receptionist. This position will perform a variety of clerical and secretarial work necessary for the smooth operation of an assigned office. Answers the telephone and provides general information regarding the Corps and shelter programs; assists with distributing of seasonal employee applications; involved with the Corps program activities, as necessary.

This position is responsible for:

  • Schedules and assists with all Emergency Assistant appointments.
  • Answers telephone in a courteous and tactful manner; greets and assists people from outside the Salvation Army.
  • Provides accurate and complete information regarding the office operations and/or services.
  • Photocopies and/or shreds a variety of items including correspondence, forms, reports, and documents.
  • Distributes information regarding Salvation Army services, programs, conferences, seminars, etc. in an accurate and timely manner; compiles mailing lists and ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
  • Compiles information for booklets, kits, notebooks, etc. for conferences, seminars, and meetings.
  • Performs various clerical and secretarial support work associated with special projects, seasonal events, and conference and committee meetings; assists in coordinating arrangements and volunteers with Kettle program.
  • Coordinates arrangements for routine meetings; ensures the meeting rooms are properly set up and cleaned before and after meetings; prepares food and drink, as necessary.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Business Manager or Social Service Staff.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to clients requiring assistance.
  • Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light (less than 25lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Light mobility: duties are usually performed by a combination of standing, walking, and primarily sitting.
  • Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
  • Work may require driving a vehicle where there may be discomforts associated with heavy traffic or changes in weather.

What We Are Looking For In You:

Education and Experience: High School diploma or G.E.D. required with additional secretarial courses preferred, and two years' experience performing clerical work in an office environment, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications: May require valid state driver's license.
