Job Description :

An award-winning consulting engineering firm located in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, is seeking a mid-level candidate to join our environmental/hazardous materials team. Under the supervision of a Project Manager, the candidate will conduct office and field work for clients in compliance with environmental and hazardous materials regulations. Responsibilities include scheduling work, communicating with clients, budgeting projects, and performing related duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Investigate and sample suspect materials for asbestos, lead paint, and other hazardous substances following sampling protocols.
  • Monitor projects during asbestos abatement.
  • Develop and review abatement and remediation plans and specifications; ability to read architectural and MEP drawings.
  • Evaluate laboratory results and assess the extent of hazmat areas.
  • Assist in developing survey reports, abatement plans, and construction documents.
  • Interact with responsible parties and their representatives.
  • Work effectively under deadlines.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer applications.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and NYC regulations on asbestos, lead, PCBs, mold, and other hazardous materials.
  • AutoCAD skills are a plus.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • NYCDEP Asbestos Investigator, NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector and Project Monitor, EPA Lead Inspector, NYSDOL Mold Assessor.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Ability to work both in the office and in the field.
  • Willingness to mobilize quickly for field work.
  • Ability to wear PPE in hazardous conditions.
