DEFINITIONTo perform skilled labor in the installation, maintenance and removal of street markings.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives direction from supervisory or managerial traffic staff.Exercises no supervision.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES--Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Operate a variety of traffic painting equipment including air compressors, sand blasters, paint machines, spray guns, bead guns, heat exchangers and other similar equipment and machinery in repairing, installing and maintaining traffic markings in various weather conditions.Assist with interpreting plans and work orders to determine and confirm proper installation of traffic of traffic control markings; ensure adequate visibility of markings.Maintain proper cleaning and maintenance procedures for equipment and materials.Load and apply paint in designated traffic areas according to specifications, install reflective materials as requested.Layout, stripe, paint and maintain lane lines, center lines, crosswalks, turn arrows, stop bars, railroad crossings, parking stalls, curbs and other pavement markings.Prepare and verify safety procedures on work sites including placing barricades and warning signs for safety; may direct traffic as necessary.OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvide staff support to assist designated department staff in the completion of their duties and responsibilities; may participate in clerical or administrative office work.Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of :Basic methods, materials, tools, equipment, procedures, practices and theory used in the installation and maintenance of traffic control markings.Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.City and departmental policies and procedures.Principles and techniques of installing, maintaining and removing traffic markings.Safe work practices.Ability to:Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.Understand and interpret plans, diagrams and work orders.Operate a variety of traffic painting equipment including air compressors, sand blasters, paint machines, spray guns, bead guns, heat exchangers and other similar equipment and machinery in removing, installing and maintaining traffic markings.Estimate materials needed.Flexibly adapt to a variety of work situations and interruptions.Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:* ---making observations* ---reading and writing* ---communicating with others* ---evaluating traffic control markings* ---operating assigned equipmentMaintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:* ---kneeling, stooping, walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time* ---lifting and carrying traffic markings equipment and materials* ---operating assigned equipment .Effectively deal with personal danger which may include exposure to:* ---hazardous chemicals and materials* ---hazards associated with traffic and working in and near traffic.Maintain mental capacity which permits:* ---making sound decisions and using good judgement.Effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve:* ---working outdoors during harsh weather conditions which involve:* ---high levels of public contact* ---exposure to dust and dirt* ---use of various chemicals and cleaning compounds.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Experience and Training GuidelinesAny combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
