Job Details

An established manufacturing company is seeking an Engineering Manager for its Libertyville, IL location. This individual will oversee a team dedicated to the design and manufacturing of stamped and fabricated metal parts. The role includes leadership in project management, production, equipment operation, repair, and maintenance, all while ensuring alignment with organizational best practices. The manager will guide projects, optimize the use of modeling and manufacturing tools, and foster collaboration among mechanical engineers to achieve project goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of engineering for a manufacturing plant, including projects, product design, equipment maintenance, process improvement, quoting/costing, and BOM/routing maintenance.
  • Supervise a team of engineers and draftsmen; assign projects and ensure successful completion.
  • Identify and execute process improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, cost, and productivity.
  • Employ Lean and Six Sigma concepts and practices.
  • Collaborate with other plant departments including Operations, Quality, Sales, and Human Resources.
  • Track and report KPIs, project statistics, timelines, budgets, and related metrics.
  • Develop and implement efficient processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other 3D CAD systems.
  • Engage in project controls, prototyping, and requirements engineering and analysis.
  • Create, maintain, and propose updates to SOPs, work instructions, forms, and records.
  • Coordinate time studies to determine manufacturing process times.

Managerial Duties:

  • Supervise a small team, contributing to process and procedure development.
  • Use thorough knowledge of functional areas to effectively guide the team.
  • Participate in staffing, pay decisions, and policy development.
  • Oversee staff training, performance evaluations, and supervision.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in engineering supervision.
  • Experience in metal stamping and/or fabrication required.
  • Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT).
  • Versatility, flexibility, and the ability to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm and a sense of urgency.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
