Job Description The Library Assistant provides friendly, efficient, high quality customer service to students, faculty and staff. The primary responsibilities of the Library Assistant will be managing circulation, equipment, and public service, and other library-related projects on the Desoto campus. The position is a 9-month part-time general staff position. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree; Bachelor's degree preferred
REPORTS TO: Head Librarian DeSoto Campus TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine months - Mid-August through Mid-May HOURS: 19 hours; Monday-Thursday; Daytime hours anytime from 7:30 AM - 2:00 PM DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Manages the library computer lab and front desk
  • Provides excellent customer service to all library patrons
  • Helps patrons in locating library materials and using library resources, including the online catalog
  • Assists students with basic computer questions, including software applications, printing, and internet access
  • Provides basic assistance and guidance to patrons on the use of makerspace equipment and resources
  • Troubleshoots basic computer and software issues
  • Assists with library outreach activities.
  • Contributes to social media and marketing efforts
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Head Librarian.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to maintain consistent communication
  • Strong computer technical skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Strong interpersonal skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the position is regularly required to do the following:
