Research Computing at the University of Virginia (UVA-RC) is seeking candidates for the newly created Director of Operations position.
UVA-RC is a growing unit under the University of Virginia's centralized IT organization (ITS). With a staff of 30, two HPC systems (Rivanna and Afton), and a broad set of service offerings, UVA-RC focuses on providing researchers across UVA with the computational expertise and resources to advance their projects. UVA-RC comprises 5 teams: Infrastructure, DevOps, User Support, Data Analytics, and Digital Technologies, with expertise ranging from system administration to bioinformatics.
The role reports to the Associate Vice President for Research Computing (AVP-RC) and is a senior leadership position. It involves coordinating operational activities within Research Computing, primarily focusing on Infrastructure, DevOps, and User Support. The Director will work closely with the AVP-RC to identify key services and ensure alignment with the university's strategic goals and researcher needs. This includes representing UVA-RC in university-wide initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in advancing UVA's research mission, experience in communicating to diverse audiences, and technical leadership in designing and delivering computing and storage services.

Work environment is flexible; on-site presence is expected about three days a week at UVA's offices in Michie North, with HPC infrastructure housed at the University Data Center.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree, 10+ years of experience, no licensure required.
Physical demands are primarily sedentary, involving extensive computer use, with occasional travel for meetings and programs.
