Introduction

Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the First State. In meeting this mission, Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion. Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement

The Criminal Division in Kent County seeks dedicated attorneys to join the Special Victims Unit as Deputy Attorneys General. This impactful role focuses on advocating for vulnerable victims and ensuring justice through expert prosecution, thorough investigations, and compassionate support. The position includes a $3,000 annual specialist stipend.

Career Ladder

The Deputy Attorney General (DAG) career steps and salaries are based on experience, skills, and years barred. Salary ranges are as follows:

  • Pay Grade A14 DAG II: $87,822 to $92,106
  • Pay Grade A16 DAG III: $96,997 to $99,129
  • Pay Grade A18 DAG IV: $106,626 to $108,737
  • Pay Grade A20 DAG V: $118,238 to $122,920

Essential Functions

Deputy Attorneys General will manage caseloads involving sexual assaults, child death, abuse, and neglect cases. They will attend victim interviews at the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC), conduct pre- and post-arrest intakes with investigators, collaborate with medical professionals, detectives, and child welfare professionals to investigate cases, evaluate evidence for charging decisions, and prosecute supported crimes. They will also share on-call responsibilities to assist police with after-hours investigations.

Job Requirements

Ideal candidates will be able to manage complex investigations, learn and understand medical evidence, exercise strong judgment in case evaluation, and anticipate legal and medical issues in litigation. Candidates should establish strong working relationships with detectives, medical personnel, child welfare professionals, other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff, and court personnel. They must be capable of independently trying serious cases and applying relevant laws and court rules. Membership in the Delaware Bar is required.
