Cybersecurity Instructor for Highschool Students

Overview: The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is partnering with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) Career Technical Education (CTE) program to deliver Cybersecurity courses at the Advanced Technical Center (ATC). The ATC is a centralized facility designed to offer high-quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses to students from various high schools across Washington, DC. This initiative aims to equip students with essential skills for high-wage, high-skill, and in-demand careers, promoting access and equity in education by overcoming the barriers associated with equipment costs.

Position Summary: The Cybersecurity Instructor will be trained and supervised by faculty in the Department of Computer Science and IT. The instructor will teach Cybersecurity courses to high school students at the ATC. This role requires close collaboration with ATC leadership, adherence to ATC policies, and participation in professional development activities. The instructor will play a crucial role in preparing students for careers in cybersecurity by providing high-quality, hands-on education.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction:

  • Deliver Cybersecurity courses to high school students at the ATC.

Collaboration and Meetings:

  • Attend weekly faculty meetings with ATC leadership, either face-to-face or virtually.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the ATC instructional coach.

Professional Development:

  • Attend a multi-day (3-4 days) ATC Summer Instructor Institute.
  • Engage in a regular schedule of observations and instructional coaching.

Administrative Duties:

  • Update gradebooks weekly in alignment with ATC grading policies.
  • Record daily attendance according to ATC attendance policies.
  • Adhere to and enforce ATC discipline policies.
  • Prepare and provide substitute plans when unable to teach.

Student Support:

  • Offer standing weekly office hours for ATC students.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Knowledge and practical experience in Cybersecurity.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with ATC leadership and instructional coaches.
  • Commitment to promoting access and equity in education.
