USW Union, Transportation Group. 260-day position. Rate of pay beginning at $28.84 / hour. One (1) full-time position, 40 hours per week. Start date is upon expiration of the posting deadline and in accordance with Article XIII, Section C of the USW Contract. GENERAL SUMMARY: To keep the district's vehicles in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: To assess and analyze trouble which develops in the course of operation of the school's fleet. To advise all other mechanics for the most effective and efficient service. To coordinate the daily function of the garage to ensure safe and smooth operation of the district's vehicles. DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Is responsible for the diagnosing, assigning, and repairing of the district's fleet. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment Maintain an efficient and effective system of routine maintenance and preventative care. Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas. Reports any unsafe and hazardous conditions. Perform Quality Assurance inspection on all work. Promote high standards of shop safety in accordance with State and Federal OSHA guidelines. Perform acceptance inspections of all new vehicles to ensure that they meet the district's specifications. Retain certification, attend training opportunities, attend meetings as requested and required, and stay current on school bus laws and regulations. Will ensure that the garage and surrounding areas around the facility are clean and functional. Ensure that snow and ice will be cleared regularly around the facility. Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or Fleet Manager. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED equivalency. Degree equivalent or Master Mechanic certification by the State of Michigan required. ASE School Bus Certification will be required for continuing employment. Must be certified in the following areas: - Drive Train

- Heating, Ventilation and A/C
- Diesel Engines
- Brakes
- Electrical/Electronic Systems
- Preventative Maintenance Inspection
Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency at transportation mechanical repair. Demonstrated experience with computerized garage systems. CDL license with passenger endorsement preferred. Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse groups and individuals. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Minimum of three years of experience as a bus mechanic. Ability to react to change productively. Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage one's daily work schedule. Ability to understand and follow directions both oral and written. Willing to receive additional training provided by the district to improve skills. Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner. Ability to exercise independent judgement.
