Position Summary:
The Medical Records Specialist plays a critical role in supporting our attorneys, nurse paralegals and intake specialists by ensuring timely and accurate acquisition of medical records and billing statements. This role involves regular communication with healthcare providers, thorough tracking of record requests, and maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Request, track, and obtain medical records and bills from hospitals, clinics, and healthcare providers
- Follow up persistently via phone, fax, email, and mail to ensure timely receipt of documents
- Review received records for completeness and accuracy
- Upload and organize records into case management software
- Work with case managers and attorneys to identify missing or additional records needed
- Communicate with clients as necessary to obtain authorizations and confirm treatment providers
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and firm privacy protocols
Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with medical records is required
- Prior experience in a law firm or healthcare environment is preferred
- Bachelor's degree in health information management is preferred but not required
- Certification in Health Information Management (RHIT or RHIA) is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
