TITLE: Assistant Community School DirectorDEPARTMENT: Youth Services and Community DevelopmentLOCATION: Brooklyn, New York (East New York)REPORT TO: Community School Director (CSD)DATE: July 2025HOURS: 8 am - 4 pm or 9 am - 5 pm, late evenings and occasionally Saturdays are required. Schedule may vary according to program needs.SALARY: $50,000 annually, and excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401K plan, and paid vacation days.JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant CSD will be based at a public school site in Brooklyn, New York, and will be charged with supporting the CSD with brokering partnerships, organizing programs and services, and maximizing family/community engagement. The Assistant CSD will support with delivering the competencies available across Grand Street Settlement (GSS) into planning and organizing extended learning opportunities, additional funding opportunities and programs, attendance interventions, and student/family supports within the school and the greater community. This professional will identify student, school, and community needs; synchronize the objectives of the school and community with measures that support grade promotion, academic preparedness, and social support. The Assistant CSD will develop events and campaigns that promote high attendance and a grade promotion culture for all students.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; and/or at least two years of experience coordinating and/or developing K-adolescent services and programming in an urban environment, elementary school setting within a school-based program.
  • Experience with program coordination, management and supervision of staff, budget and program management, event planning, resource connection, and referral coordination with adolescents.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the school administration and school leadership team.
  • Ability to engage, build relationships, and demonstrate empathy with adolescents.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively with staff members.
  • Ability to multitask while paying attention to details and to work efficiently and effectively under pressure.
  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate diverse cultural competence.
  • Bi-lingual preferred (fluent in Spanish/English).
  • Computer proficiency including online internet use, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, email correspondence, and database management a requisite. Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting
  • Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; 3
  • Reference Check; Physical w/ updated TB Test (fees may apply).
  • If offered the position, must submit $25 fee for NY State Clearance Review.
  • If hired, Grand Street requires all potential employees to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Valid CPR/AED Pro certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.
  • Valid First Aid/RTE certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with the creation and establishment of an environment that responds to the needs of students and families while building a culture of high attendance and achievement.
  • Coordinate services, programs, and resources surrounding social and emotional well-being and mental health.
  • Develop new partnerships with organizations and programs to work with the school.
  • Manage organization/program partnerships relationships.
  • Build relationships with students, existing Community Based Organization (CBO) staff and school staff.
  • Develop strong relationships with teachers, parents and students, especially through existing groups such as the school leadership team (SLT) and grade teams.
  • Sit on the school's Instructional Cabinet, Administrative Cabinet, and School Leadership Team and participate in weekly check-ins with the superintendent's office.
  • Assist with data collection and research, and prepare relevant data on a bi-weekly basis and interpret data to inform the decision making process.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and weekly individual supervision.
  • Identify chronically absent students and gain parent consent to provide services and supports for those students.
  • Connect students to a range of prevention, early intervention and intensive service programs that address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development of each student.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SYEP program to provide work experience to youth ages 6- 24.
  • Engage families and caregivers in understanding and supporting the education of their youth.
