The Vice President of Human Resources is involved with all aspects of human resources operations regarding the development and implementation of HR policies and services, including talent selection, management, retention, and development programs, legal/regulatory/credentialing compliance, employee benefits, employee relations, employment practices and procedures, employee communications, recognition, and events. The VP of Human Resources serves as an integral consultant and business partner to senior management, participating in the planning and implementation of strategic plans for operational divisions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Promotes a culture of employee engagement by directing initiatives that impact employee morale and retain top talent.
  • Creates and supports a positive, professional, collaborative, harassment-free work environment by understanding and complying with the company's policies.
  • Responsible for assessing and delivering training, including employee onboarding, annual regulatory training, leadership training, and ongoing facility training topics, in partnership with the facility leadership team.
  • Responsible for succession planning at all levels within the facility.
  • In partnership with facility supervisors, successfully onboard new employees within the designated time frame.
  • Oversees leave of absence processes in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • In partnership with risk management, oversees workplace accident investigations and claims reporting with workers' compensation and OSHA.
  • Oversees the credentialing and privileging process for licensed professionals, physicians, and nurse practitioners.
  • Leads benefit renewals, sets employee contribution rates, meets ACA requirements, and explores best practices for developing competitive benefit packages.
  • Manages the performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and fairness.
  • Researches and implements pay grades aligned with industry and regional standards.
  • Champions diversity and inclusion initiatives to foster a diverse workforce and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Manages HR initiatives throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, FTE management, job description development, onboarding, benefits enrollment, compliance, performance, compensation, and exit processes.
  • Responsible for FTE management in coordination with the facility budget.
  • Conducts exit interviews to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborates on payroll concerns with the Chief of Finance.
  • Partners with the CEO and finance team to manage labor models and FTE budgets annually, participating in the budgeting process and making adjustments as needed based on financial performance.
  • Ensures compliance with licensure, credentialing, and background requirements per JOINT/DPH/BSAS/BHDDH, Probation, and other agencies.
  • Maintains up-to-date policies and procedures annually.
  • Handles legal matters related to personnel issues, employee relations, etc.
  • Monitors adherence to policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Develops and maintains an Affirmative Action Plan, establishing goals and reporting annually to the Board of Directors.
  • Provides reports to the Board of Directors as requested.
Experience and Skills:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business; MBA preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • PHR/SPHR/SHRM-SPHR certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5+ years in healthcare.
  • Experience in non-profit and grant-funded environments is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of compensation and benefits programs.
  • Understanding of FMLA, PFMLA, HIPAA, ERISA, Title VII, ACA, LTD, and COBRA regulations.
  • Experience with OSHA filings, Affirmative Action, and Workers' Compensation.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating welfare benefits, administration, and plan management.
  • Healthcare industry experience and familiarity with Joint Commission, DPH, BHDDH, BSAS, MA, and RI state regulations are strongly desired.
  • Experience with employee investigations and disciplinary issues.
  • Analytical skills to interpret HR data points.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including group presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, HRIS, Time & Attendance, Payroll systems, and web-based applications.
