Wastewater Technician#31914Location: Cass City, MICompany: Dairy Farmers of AmericaCategory: Environmental Health and SafetyJob DescriptionGeneral Purpose:Ensure that wastewater treatment facility is operating effectively and efficiently. Must be proficient in an activated sludge treatment, including nitrification processes in industrial wastewater setting, based on a membrane bioreactor (MBR). Must also have working knowledge of wastewater equipment and trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.Job Duties and Responsibilities:* Be on-call to respond to emergencies and breakdowns at the waste treatment facility* Maintain chemical levels and adjustments* Read gauges and meters and accurately record findings* Prepare and maintain accurate paperwork such as records, logs, orders, surveys, and routine reports as directed* Perform standardized water process control, monitoring, and compliance sampling and testing including Ammonia, COD, BOD, Total Suspended Solids, Total Phosphorus, Total Residual Chlorine, Temperature, and Total Dissolved Solids§ Collect wastewater samples for analysis by state lab§ Maintain daily narrative logs and record plant operating data as required in logs and operations software§ Provide effective, timely, and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, and suppliers* Foster teamwork consistent with our company and plant Mission, Vision, and Core Values§ Follow all DFA GMPs and work in a manner consistent with all corporate and regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements§ Maintain safe working conditions for employees and compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues§ Dedicate effort to safety as we expect every employee to leave work in the same condition as they arrived§ Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgement§ Adhere to all DFA Quality, Safety, and GMP policies and procedures and report any nonconformity§ Perform other related functions assigned by management or as they become apparent§ The requirements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employee, but is not a complete list of responsibilities, duties and skills required.§ Other duties may be assigned as required.Minimum Requirements:Education and Experience* High School Diploma/GED* Class B-2a Chemical Clarification and C-3a Activated Sludge Facility license or ability to obtain this license at the next testing opportunity* Experience preferred with a system based on a membrane bioreactor (MBR)Knowledge, Skills and Abilities* Basic computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel and SCADA systems)* Able to perform accurate mathematical calculations related to this position§ Able to operate and maintain handheld analytical instruments including DO, pH, temperature, and ammonia§ Working knowledge using mechanical skills for making minor repairs to process equipment, piping, and motors, etc.§ Hands-on experience in light duty electrical power systems (240 V/ single and three phase) and instrumentation calibration and use* Must be able to perform electrical work (change pump motors, diagnose motor control problems, etc.)* Must know pneumatics, solenoid valves, and air cylinders* Must be able to use standard maintenance tools in a safe manner* Must have the ability to perform minor projects from planning to installation (Typically, this includes non-sanitary piping, drain lines, vacuum lines)* Must have the ability to perform routine repairs in a safe and timely fashion (rebuilding product/water pumps, VFD's, valves, piping leaks)* Must have the ability to perform routine preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment, identify any abnormal conditions, and maintain appropriate records* Must have the ability to follow process control computer variables and schematics and diagnose system problems* Must have the ability to assist other mechanics on more complicated repairs in a safe and useful manner* Must have good interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation and effectively communicate with others* Must be able to read, write and speak EnglishDFA Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentPlace an X in the appropriate responseNever0% of shiftOccasional1-33% of shiftFrequent34-66% of shiftConstant67-100% of shiftPhysical DemandsSitXStandXWalkXGrasp, handle, twist or typeXReach (forward or overhead)XClimb (stairs or ladder)XSquatting, kneeling or bendingXPush/pullXCrawlingXDriving a vehicleXLifting/CarryingUp to 10 poundsXUp to 25 poundsXUp to 55 poundsXUp to 75 poundsX75-100 poundsXWork EnvironmentToxic or noxious chemicalsXOutdoor weather conditionsXWet or humid conditions (non-weather)XRefrigerated temps (non-weather) < 40°XElevated heat (non-weather) > 95°XLoud noises > 80 decibelsXDustXFumesXAbility to work around dairy/food productsXWork in tight or narrow spacesXWorking in, around & over lines/obstaclesXAbility to work with limited supervisionXTypical office environmentXTypical manufacturing environmentXTypical farm/livestock environmentXTypical lab environmentXSensory Demands(Check all that apply)?
