Job SummaryPosition Summary: A social studies teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students in middle or high school settings. They play a pivotal role in shaping the academic, social, and personal development of secondary school students. This position involves creating and implementing engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and fostering a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment.Reports To:PrincipalClassification: Full-Time (Certified)FLSA Status: Exempt Work Term: 187 DaysFull-Time Salary Range:MCBOE Salary ScheduleQualifications:Bachelor's degree; A master's degree may be required for certain certified teacher positionsProfessional certificate in the area of responsibility issued by the Alabama State Department of Education prior to starting date Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Teach the Alabama Course of Study (ACOS) with fidelity Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning Develops schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests that are in accordance with established procedures Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipmentUse relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and proceduresMaintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the schoolProvide appropriate feedback on workEncourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategiesMaintain accurate and complete records of student's progress and developmentUpdate all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations Prepare required reports on students and activitiesParticipate in department, school, district, and parent meetingsCommunicate information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needsEstablish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities and prepare the classroom for class activitiesProvide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activitiesObserve and evaluate students' performance and development. Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignmentsOther duties as assigned by the school and/or district administratorsRequired Skills and Competencies:Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions.
